Disney's Animal Kingdom After Hours

December 13, 2018

Picture this: you walk into a completely empty Pandora, walk up to Flight of Passage and see that it has no wait time. Then you go and pick up a free Mickey Bar before setting off to ride Expedition Everest in the very back row (best seat, don't fight me on this), again with no wait time. You decide to buy a fruity drink from the bar and skip over to sit in one of the many open seats for the Rivers of Light show. Okay, what world did you just step into? Is this some kind of dream? Nope, this is real life y'all. This is Disney's Animal Kingdom: After Hours.

Firstly I would just like to thank Disney so incredibly much for inviting me to this event! This was my first time at an After Hours event and I am honestly so blown away! So here's the details: The After Hours events happen at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. The tickets are $125 if you purchase ahead of time, or $129 if you purchase them day of the event. Passholders and DVC members can get discounted tickets for $95. The event takes place from 8:30-11:30 PM and they have a list of available dates on their website.

Now onto the fun bits! I honestly think that if you are going to do any After Hours events, Animal Kingdom would be the best one to go to. I have lived in Orlando for three years now and I have only ridden Flight of Passage twice. Why? Because the lines are always so long and I am not a very patient person. But I am not kidding or exaggerating when I say that we literally walked directly onto the ride. Not only that, but we were the only ones on the ride, so we got to sit wherever we wanted! If you're visiting from out of town and want to get the most out of your Disney visit (aka do everything with very little wait times), this is the time for you.

Not all of the rides are open at the After Hours event, but all of the big ones are! In addition to both Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Journey, Expedition Everest (my favorite ride other than Haunted Mansion), DINOSAUR, TriceraTop Spin, and It's Tough to be a Bug! are all open. Also there is a special showing of Rivers of Light! I remember the first time I went to that show having to make a Fastpass just to make sure I got a seat. However, there are plenty of seats open during the event, so you can walk right up minutes before the show starts and be fine!

And of course what would be a Disney trip without a few snacks? You can pick up unlimited Mickey Bars, popcorn, and beverages during your evening! Wait, I feel like I must emphasis this one more time. UNLIMITED FREE MICKEY BARS. If that doesn't sell ya, I don't know what will!

The bars near Everest and also in Pandora are open if you would like to purchase alcoholic beverages as well! Spoiler alert: I got a drink from both. The first drink I got was the Khumbu Icefall from the bar near Everest. This frozen tropical drink had Guava rum with coconut and raspberry puree. Y'all I'm going to be real honest here, I got so excited when I got that drink in my hand that I immediately began drinking it and totally forgot to even take a picture of it. Sorry! My bad. But I guess that tells you how good it is, right? The second drink I got was the Rum Blossom from Pandora. This one was made with Bacardi rum, layers of apple and desert pear, and topped with passion fruit boba balls. This one was also as delicious as it was colorful (see above picture)!

Honestly there are so many perks of an After Hours event it would take me a novel to write them all out. But I think if I had to break down the three highlights it would be: no wait times, free food, and virtually no crowds.

I cannot thank Disney enough for sending me to the Animal Kingdom After Hours event! I am so excited to also be going to another After Hours event later this week at my favorite park, Hollywood Studios! Seriously y'all, I'm so excited I have at least a dozen different outfits to choose from because when I get really stoked about something, I outfit plan. It's my way of getting out my excitement.

Thank you all so much for reading! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to me as I would be more than happy to answer them!

Sunny thoughts,
Abby
